Hello and welcome in to our Christmas Home Tour 2016. I am so excited to be joining with some other wonderful bloggers to give you a peek at our Christmas style. Today, I am sharing some rooms in the upstairs portion of our house. I will save the downstairs for another day.
As you scroll through my photos, you will realize that I am a detail person. I love photos that show the little things that make a difference in decorating. The other thing you will notice is that we prefer a casual, homey feel. It is our own spin on the Farmhouse look. I am not about “fancy” but about “come in and stay awhile”. This may be shocking, but we don’t even take our shoes off when we come in the house! (gasp) Our hardwood floors are lived on and, well, they look like it. That’s okay, we are comfortable. We don’t worry about it.
Our Christmas decor is a reflection of home, comfort and warmth. I don’t jump on the trend of the year and change up my decor every Christmas. I use the same items, and introduce some new pieces each year that go with my style and color scheme. We like the continuity of this because as we put up the decorations, it evokes memories of years past. It pulls the heart strings. We say “Remember when Austie made this ornament in Kindergarten?”, “Remember when we made that sign?” or “Remember when Grammy (my mom) gave us this?”
For us, the memories and familiarity are what makes it Christmas! When the kids come home, I want them to look around and feel the comfort of childhood.
Don’t worry about the latest trend on Pinterest and just do what fills your heart!
Be sure to stop by and give some love to these other lovely bloggers during our Christmas Tour!
